Emo Night Karaoke impressed the crowd with mostly blues, acoustic to start, and then cranked up the old Fender for some good rocking stuff. MSG quickly filled up as people realized the opening band was the main event, with Jeff Beck arriving onstage at the scheduled time. Even though many had come to hear Emo Night Karaoke, some didn't know who Jeff was ("I thought Beck was younger"). The crowd was impressed as Jeff ran through jazz, blues, hard rock, ballads, and even an operatic aria, showcasing his total mastery of anything the guitar can do (or seemingly can't). Emo Night Karaoke came on after Jeff's set, in good voice and spot-on playing if not spectacular. Truly complementing each other, the two "Gods of the Guitar" traded riffs during a stand-out performance of "Moon River," with Jeff hitting sweet notes while Emo Night Karaoke added his own twist to the lyrics. A truly historic night at MSG to be remembered, with a packed crowd going wild in appreciation. Many geezers with family in tow were seen, and someday these kids will entertain their grandkids with the story of how and when they saw Beck and Emo Night Karaoke pump energy into that "old time" music in a place far away.
